After a long, hot summer and more than our fair share of rain, our pleasant autumn weather is finally starting to kick in!  Take advantage of this beautiful time of year by getting out and exploring our city. Why not become a tourist for the day and see what our great city has to offer?

Here’s a list of the top five things to see and do in Brisbane this April!

  1. Explore South Bank ParklandsImage by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/kwansoon-2856831/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=1773263">KWANSOON</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=1773263">Pixabay</a>

Home to a variety of attractions, including the Wheel of Brisbane, Streets Beach and the South Bank Cultural Precinct which houses the Queensland Museum, Sciencentre and Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art, the milder temperatures this time of year make it an ideal time to enjoy the parklands and outdoor dining along the river. Here’s just a few of things you can see and do in April:

  1. Visit The Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha

April is a fantastic time to explore the botanic gardens due to the cooler temperatures and the blooming of autumn flowers. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll, have a picnic or even join a guided tour to learn more about the diverse plant species and the garden layout.

The gardens are renowned for their impressive collection of subtropical plants, and diverse themed gardens take you on a journey through 128 acres of horticulture. Highlights include the beautiful Japanese gardens and the largest collection of Australian rainforest trees in the world, as well as sections dedicated to fragrant plants, bamboo, cactus, indigenous plants, and more.

Budding botanists will love the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail through the rainforest, and you can take advantage of the free guided walks and minibus tours. Best of all, entry to the gardens is free.

While you’re in the area, stop by the Brisbane Lookout Mount Coot-tha, about a four-minute drive from the gardens.

  1. Check out Eat Street Northshore

It’s all there in the name – a food lovers paradise, featuring dozens of shipping containers converted into mini-restaurants offering a variety of international cuisines. With live music and a bustling market atmosphere, it’s a delightful way to spend  an evening tasting different dishes from around the world.

  1. Hop on a Brisbane River Cruise

River City Cruises have a variety of cruises, including a spectacular sunset cruise that really showcase our wonderful city.

On a budget? Simply catch the CityCat and enjoy the soaring buildings, the South Bank Parklands and the spectacular cliffs at Kangaroo Point.

  1. Climb the Story Bridge

Constructed during Australia’s Great Depression in the 1930s, the imposing steel Story Bridge is a much-loved Brisbane landmark. As one of only three bridge climbs in the world (after Sydney and Auckland), this one also offers something totally unique: the choice to abseil the descent.

Catering to people of all fitness levels and those 10 years of age or older, the two-hour experience takes you 80 meters above the Brisbane River for uninterrupted views of the city.

So go and enjoy this beautiful time of year, the vibrant culture and beautiful scenery of Brisbane!
